In the year 2003, the net incomes per capita in the countryside of Zhejiang has already reached RMB 5,431 Yuan. According to Professor Lu Fuying, the villages of Zhejiang can be classified into four types: agricultural villages; industrial villages and city villages; moreover, 70% of the rural population in Zhejiang are no longer in agriculture.
Industrial villages:
This means the industrialized villages with strong economic power, which is a result of composition of industrial systems and traditional rural society. This kind of village is now quite common in China, especially East China.
Agricultural villages:
Now, this traditional type of villages can also be classified into two types: the first type is those in which families earn their livings by agriculture; the other is those in which families develop commerce from agriculture, and gain profits.
City villages:
Villages in suburb areas. The nonagriculturalization of this type of villages is closely related with the urbanization of China. During the process of urbanization, many villages are amalgamated into cities, and have become a transition community.
Town villages:
Villages in the towns. The development of towns has resulted in the industrialization and urbanization of the whole society. The villages are amalgamated into towns, and this a new type of industrialization in China.
