Now, the countryside of Zhejiang has changed a lot.
Mr. Shen Zhoufa is the cleaner of Jiangwei Village of Haiyan County under North Zhejiang Province's Jiaxing City. Before, the rubbish in the village was all in a mess; while at present, the rubbish is sent to the town for power generation. "The village has become much cleaner." said Shen.
Four years' all-round repair of villages has changed 8,236 traditional villages in Zhejiang into "Countryside Communities". In the long history in China, it has been the farmers themselves who were in charge of the public hygienism; however, now, it is the governments.
Until the end of 2006, there have been 55.561 billion Yuan invested into the planning of villages in Zhejiang. Before, the situation in the countrysides was often described as "There are new houses, but no new villages"; whereas now, 83 counties (or county-level cities and districts) have drafted village plannings, and 16,389 villages have designed the blueprints.
With the repairing work of villages, the environment in the villages is becoming much better. "We can swim in the rivers again." said Mr. Bao Yinghao, a farmer from Dongyang, smilingly.
Now, farmers are able to do exercises in the parks, walk alongside the rivers, or read in the libraries. "Now we have already had many things in the cities." said Mr. Zhang Rongyao from Jinxing Village of Jiaxing.
