Secrets of Zhejiang

The rapid development of Zhejiang Province has attracted much attention: in 2002, there were 24 counties (or county-level cities) in Zhejiang ranked in the Top 100 Counties (or county-level cities) in China, which is the 1st among all the provinces in China; and now, there are 16 counties (cities) whose GDPs per capita are more than 2,000 U.S. Dollars.

According to the experts, the prosperity of these counties is the main cause of the prosperity of Zhejiang. In recent years, the economy of the top counties are growing by 12% every year, and the top 17 counties including Shaoxing, Zhuji, Yuhuan and Jiashan are adding tens of millions of Yuan of GDP to Zhejiang every year.

Moreover, the counties of strong powers have also become the platforms of importation & exportation. In the year 2002, the importation & exportation 17 top counties (cities) has reached more than 5 billion U.S. Dollars, which were 20% of the total amount of Zhejiang Province.

The economy of Zhejiang Province is also characterized by featured economy: for example, the textiles of Shaoxing, socks of Zhuji and small home applieances of Cixi are all occupying leading positions in there areas in China. In these counties, the featured economy are occupying more than half of the GDPs, and in some of them, even 70-80%.

Finally, the leading counties are also playing leading roles of the economy of the whole Zhejiang Province. For example, in the year 2006, Zhuji has attracted 1,000 rural labors from Central Zhejiang Province's Lishui City, which is comparatively less developed. In all the leading counties (cities) of Zhejiang, there are often hundreds of thousands of migrant labors, of which quite a proportion are from underdeveloped areas in Zhejiang.
